For me, love has always looked like someone cared enough for me to show up, to notice, to offer to help me and to care about what I might be going through at the time or even just about my day to day stuff.

And when that doesn’t happen from the people we expect, it stings and it hurts and turns our hearts upside down.

Disappointment is real because we are all human. The truth is people will make choices that might hurt us, not always because they don’t love us but because they are human with limitations, they get overwhelmed, they don’t know what to do or their circumstances keep them away or saying no.

God doesn’t want us to pretend we don’t feel the disappointment, He wants us dependent on Him.

Here is how I fill my heart with happiness when disappointment wants to overtake it:

  • God always shows up for me
  • God is always willing to listen to me
  • God’s presence is with me every moment of the day
  • God sees me
  • God knows my ache, my disappointment, my hurt, my wounds

In the midst of all the ache – God draws near. He meets us in it.

My heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices. Psalm 16:9

My heart needs a settled joy that comes only from believing in and knowing God is with me, He loves me and that only He is faithful through every season.

Disappointment will come because we are humans living in a fallen world, but our hearts of happiness come as we discover more of who God is, rest in Him and understand that he offers the happiness that the world cannot give or take away.
