Real happiness has deeper roots.

It’s not tied to our circumstances, our success, our accomplishments or our relationships.

When our happiness is rooted in faith, it grows from a place of trust, peace and gratitude.

It is no longer a fragile feeling dependent on external things.

Happiness rooted in faith isn’t fleeting. It is enduring. It’s a quiet confidence that no matter what comes, God is present to meet us most deeply in those moments. Its His promise to us and it’s how we can live a blessed life.

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus gives his Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5: 2-12). This text is called the “Beatitudes” or from Latin “beatus”, which means; blessed or happy. Nine times Jesus uses the word “blessed” in this sermon. He did that to show that happiness rooted in faith is something deeper than circumstantial or temporary feelings of happiness.

He’s reminding us that being “blessed” or “happy” comes from having a relationship with God. When we confess our spiritual poverty, recognizing our need for a Savior, we are inheritors of the Kingdom of Heaven forever and He wants us to know that is real happiness.

The deep roots of real happiness from our faith isn’t about our comfort, or any of our achievements, it’s about us living a deeper kind of joy, living in alignment with God’s values (a Biblical worldview), rooted in humility, compassion and faith.

Psalm 1:1-2

Happy is the man who does not walk in the way sinful men tell him to, or stand in the path of sinners, or sit with those who laugh at the truth. But he finds joy in the Law of the Lord and thinks about His Law day and night. (NLV)

True happiness grows from a life rooted in faith and finding our joy in being guided by God’s wisdom and instruction rather than worldly pursuits or advice.

When we trust God and His promises, we begin to see our circumstances through His lens. Hope outshines our fear, joy replaces sorrow, gratitude overwhelms worry. Not because everything is perfect, but because we know how perfectly loved we are by God. And that is happiness rooted in faith.
