Limits or No Limits?

Uncovering the Truth About Limits

At this time of year especially (well OK at ALL times of the year!) I don’t want any limits on my food, my energy, my gift giving and receiving, my fun and all the other things that I LOVE!

I want to have it all and do it all and so I leave my limits behind. Because I want to do all these things I take on the mindset that they must all be good for me.

But I know now from experience and especially at this time of year where there is NO STOPPING AT ANY TIME  (you can read last weeks post on how to coach yourself to STOPPING THE MADNESS!) that I need to know my limits.

The Good and the Bad on Limits

Limits are not joy stealers they are given for a purpose and are gifts from God. They help us to prioritize. They help us to release ourselves from the tyranny of the urgent and to pay attention and give attention to what is most important and beneficial for our whole being.

At this time of year our to do list is limitless and our hearts, minds and souls were not created for a limitless list of to dos. Good things are good…but too much of a good thing can ruin the good.

Ignoring our limits makes us stressed out, overburdened, anxious, cranky and weary. We were not created for that!

What we were created for is to love, bring joy, offer peace,  show patience,  live out kindness, goodness, and gentleness and…know through SELF CONTROL that we are not limitless!

Want to Take the Challenge With Me?

I’m challenging myself to paying attention to my limits and giving my attention to what matters most. That means:

I WILL:

  • Pay attention to my limits of time
  • Pay attention to my limits of energy
  • Pay attention to my limits for healthy eating
  • Pay attention to what I am feeding my soul
  • Pay attention to what needs to happen with exercise

I WILL:

  • Give my attention to loving others
  • Give my attention to what brings joy and peace
  • Give my attention to practicing patience (this is hard for me!)
  • Give my attention to showing goodness and gentleness
  • Give my attention to SELF CONTROL (this is the hardest thing for me!)

The Really GOOD NEWS!

Only the attributes of our heavenly Father are limitless

The attributes of the Father are for anyone who believes.

I LOVE this time of year because it is when we celebrate what God did by sending His Son Jesus. We pay attention to what Jesus did for us and we give our attention to living that out.

He sent Jesus to save us because we think we are limitless in and of ourselves, but striving on our own depletes us mentally, physically and emotionally. I know this!

But GOD (Ephesians 2: 4-10) knew this and this is what we gather to celebrate at Christmas.

So…

Slow down pay attention and give attention and be still with the Father.

The Step to Believing in Jesus

If you have not taken the step to believe in Jesus you can do it right now!

Tell this to Jesus:

Jesus I confess with my mouth that you Jesus are Lord and I believe in my heart that God the Father raised you from the dead. (Romans 10:9)

If you told that to Jesus – you are now a believer in Jesus!

And…by His grace you have been saved to eternity and have been made new into His creation by the power of the Holy Spirit that now lives in you!

Find a good Bible teaching Church to “grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus” (2 Peter 3:18) and tell someone that you became a believer in Jesus today.

I would love to hear your story of believing in Jesus!
