Taste and See That The Lord Is Good!

One year ago today…

I was on my way to speak at Mt. Hermon for the Church of The Foothills Women’s Retreat. The weekend was going to be my first time at Mt. Hermon and the focus for the weekend would be peace.

Hit from behind by a distracted driver going over 60 mph who went airborne landing on the car in front of me and then rolling over into the second lane of the 680 freeway, I never made it to Mt. Hermon to share with the women about God’s peace.

Being involved in a crash on a busy bay area freeway in rush hour traffic on a Friday afternoon seems to have no element of peace. I did not choose this circumstance but peace was not elusive to me as I was pried out of the mangled mass of metal by a good Samaritan.

In that moment I was tasting and seeing that the Lord was good! His provision for saving me and surrounding me with people to help me and get me to safety.

Reflection of His Peace

This past year has been good and hard. I am thankful to be alive as I work hard to recover physically and mentally.

I’m not going to lie there have been some hard things to go through as I work to be transformed by the renewing of my mind. (Romans 12:2)

But what I want to convey on this day is that seeking the Lord and tasting and seeing that He is good all the time does give us the peace that Jesus talked about in the verse I was to share about at the retreat.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)

The peace I felt as the accident was happening and after was the peace that Jesus told us would be with us. I knew it was nothing I mustered up or could do on my own because I normally would have reacted with fear and anxiety.

This is the process of faith and tasting and seeing the faithfulness of God in any circumstance good or bad.

And… this is the process of my faith. Of my ongoing spiritual transformation that seeks to transform and renew my mind and heart from the inside out.

Do I have it all together?

No. But I desire to taste and see with a hunger to be satisfied by the peace promised. Tasting and seeing means that in all things good or hard we are to seek the Lord.

What Does Tasting and Seeing that the Lord is Good Look Like?

Tasting implies that we not just pick or nibble from God’s provision, but that we actually seek Him by getting to know who He is through His Word. In the good of life and in the hard of life, because the faithfulness of Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrew 13:8)

When we are seeking Him we are tasting His goodness experiencing Him and actually seeing His faithfulness as we grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus ( 2 Peter 3:18).

And…we have peace in the midst of good and hard and we are satisfied.
